Drying and curing: define the difference before selecting a process

Two distinct questions

Drying may remove water or solvent and form a film. Curing may involve chemical reactions needed for the specified properties. A dry-to-touch surface alone does not establish full cure.

Start with the supplier’s data

Identify the coating family, thickness range and approved cure route. Establish what evidence is needed before considering a different energy delivery method.

Make the decision material-specific

The laser wavelength, absorption, substrate and geometry affect the thermal response. A trial result for one coupon does not establish performance for every production part.
